The Story of Anvi Earth

[pronunciation] an – vi
[noun] Anvi is the mythological goddess of the forest, who wanders unfettered across primal forests

Our story originates from the sacred groves of Kerala, adorned by the emerald crowns of coconut palms. From its leaves to its root tips, every bit of the ubiquitous coconut tree is put to use here.

It’s perhaps the oil, carefully extracted from the kernel of matured coconuts, that has had the most profound influence on Kerala’s culture, cuisine, and traditional medicine.

We strive to let the world experience the curative and restorative power of this cold-pressed, organic oil. From this part tropical and entirely charming paradise in the south of India, we craft a product for the modern world based on the timeless virtues of ancient tradition.

Chettan

[pronunciation] ch – ey – tan
[noun] In Malayalam, Chettan literally means an elder brother and is a term that is used for elder siblings, cousins and so on

Our Viju Chettan is a veritable superhuman as he shoulders the prime responsibility of hand-picking heirloom coconuts from organic farms. These green sanctuaries are proudly preserved by traditional coconut growers who grow a native variety called West Coast Tall. These palms have better yield and the coconuts are tastier.

The West Coast Tall trees are very tall and with the dwindling population of climbers, harvesting gets challenging. Also, compared to widely cultivated dwarf and hybrid varieties, the trees take longer to bear fruit. Still, our Cheta happily goes the extra mile to religiously continue his agricultural heritage. It’s a privilege to source the produce from such farms.

[verb] Ekka is another word in Malayalam for an elder brother and is also used interchangeably for elders

Meet Salim Ekka, our expert coconut de-sheller.

Salim makes light work of de-shelling coconuts with the help of his hatchet. His spirit is as tough as the coconuts he de-shells and his mien as gentle as the tropical breeze in the groves.

Salim de-shells 2,000 coconuts in a day and has been doing this demanding yet seemingly mundane job for over a decade now. Still, that winsome smile rarely fades from his face. His hard work is an indispensable element in ensuring the purity and authenticity of Anvi Earth. Also, his glistening skin is a major inspiration for us.

[noun] An endearing term used by Malayalis to address their elder sisters; also used colloquially for women who are elder to onself

Sheeja Chechi and her team sit on a bench and pare at the last bit of testa on the coconut. As they giggle and gossip amongst themselves, paring becomes second nature to them.

Occasionally, a lone bangle jingles in harmony with the chechis as it dances on their nimble yet strong wrists. Chechis carry the load of their family’s well being and silently add value to our economy. The beatific smile on their face transforms into the love with which our products are expertly made.
